National AwardIt is a proud moment for Mata Bhagwanti Chadha Niketan as it receives the National Award for ‘Best Institution Working for the Cause of Persons with Disabilities.’

MBCN, an initiative of the Ponty Chadha Foundation, received the National Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) 2018 by the Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu. The award was received by the trustee of the foundation, Shanam Chadha, under the category—‘Best Institution working for Cause of Persons with Disabilities’. Chadha said, “It was my father’s vision to create an environment where children with special needs could become socially and economically independent; and today I am proud that his dream project has reached this pinnacle. Working on his philosophy and vision, we strive to work towards creating a better society for the special children. I am thankful for all the support received from the Principal, teachers, parents and well-wishers who have worked tirelessly towards the betterment of this segment.”


The Border Security Force completed 53 years of its dedicated, distinguished and glorious service to the nation on December 1. On this occasion, the Force personnel paid a homage to the 1879 brave hearts, who made supreme sacrifice on the altar of duty and attained martyrdom. The supreme sacrifice and valour of the bordermen has been duly recognised by the Government of India by awarding one Mahavir Chakra, 13 Veer Chakras, 4 Kirti Chakras, 13 Shaurya Chakras, 232 PPMsG and 921 PMsG.

IndianOil Chairman conferred with Distinguished Alumnus Award by IIT-Roorkee

The Indian Institute Technology-Roorkee felicitated the chairman of Indian Oil, Sanjiv Singh, with its most prestigious ‘Distinguished Alumnus Award’ for 2018 for his outstanding professional accomplishments. Sanjiv Singh, Class of 1980, became the first chemical engineer from his alma mater to be felicitated with this honour. Singh said, “I accept the award with pride and utmost humility as such a recognition by one’s alma mater is the indeed the ultimate honour.”


The Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu, conferred the National Awards on individuals, institutions/organisations and state/districts for their outstanding achievements and work towards empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in Delhi. The Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thawar Chand Gehlot, Ministers of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar, Ramdas Athawale and Vijay Sampla, Secretary DEPwD, Shakuntala D Gamlin and various dignitaries also graced the occasion. On the occasion, 56 individuals and 16 institutions were awarded.


The first meeting of Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) for India-Japan Project on ‘Capacity Development on Railway Safety’ was held at Northern Railway Headquarter in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by the general manager Northern Railway T P Singh and the officials from the Railway Board, Northern Railway, Dedicated Freight

Corridor Corporation Limited and Commission of Railway Safety Organisations represented the Indian side. The Japanese representatives included officials from the Government of Japan, Japanese Embassy, Japan Transport Safety Board and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

STB and Ola co-create a unique in-trip experience for Ola passengers

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has announced a partnership with Ola where the ride-hailing company will run a campaign from December 1 to 15 on its platforms across 19 cities in West and Central India for its customers to win a trip to Singapore. The Regional Director–South Asia, Middle East and Africa (SAMEA) of STB, GB Srithar, informed that the Ola users will have to take a minimum of three rides and enter the promo code ‘SINGAPORE’ to participate in the contest. Three pairs of winners will be selected and will be notified through emails by December 31. In addition to the campaign, the STB’s brand of ‘Passion Made Possible’ will be further entrenched through the showcasing of their branded content across Ola’s platforms.

Indian visitors to greece up by 119 per cent

As per the statistics released by the Greece National Tourist Office (GNTO) and Athens International Airport, 38,046 Indian tourists visited Greece in the nine months in 2018 vis-à-vis 17,376 Indian tourists during the same period in 2017, registering an increase of 119 per cent, informed the secretary general of GNTO, Konstantinos Tsegas.
