Major Encounter At Dantewada Border In Chhattisgarh

Major Encounter At Dantewada Border In Chhattisgarh

In a major breakthrough, security forces in Chhattisgarh killed 36 Maoists during an intense encounter along the Narayanpur-Dantewada border. The operation, launched by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF), began yesterday and reached a critical point around noon today when contact with the Maoists was made. According to sources, the operation is ongoing as the forces continue to pursue remaining insurgents who have retreated deeper into the forest.

The joint operation followed intelligence reports indicating a large Maoist presence in the area. Teams were dispatched to villages in Govel, Nendur, and Thulthuli, under the Orcha and Barsur police stations, where they initiated combing operations. The encounter broke out in the dense forests near Nendur-Thulthuli, and the forces have since recovered multiple assault rifles, including AK-series weapons, indicating the heavy firepower held by the insurgents.

This marks one of the largest victories for security forces in recent times in their fight against the Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh. The Maoists, who have long posed a significant threat in the region, have been the focus of a sustained crackdown by state and central authorities.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo praised the security forces for the success of the operation, calling it a significant step toward the end of Naxalism. "Naxalism is taking its last breath... It is certainly going to be eliminated from the state," Deo stated. He also highlighted the Union Home Minister Amit Shah's commitment to eradicating the Maoist threat, noting that Shah has visited Chhattisgarh twice in the past nine months, vowing to end the insurgency by March 2026.

The encounter underscores ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the Maoist-affected regions of India.
