J and K heading for 'historic' assembly elections: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that statehood will be restored to Jammu and Kashmir after the upcoming assembly elections, the first held under the national flag and Constitution since the abrogation of Article 370. Speaking in Jammu during his two-day visit, Shah emphasized that the Modi government would not allow the return of terrorism, "autonomy," or discrimination against communities such as Gujjars, Paharis, Bakerwals, and Dalits, who have received reservations under the BJP government.

Shah criticized the Congress-National Conference alliance, accusing them of attempting to revive the "old system" that fueled instability in the region. He assured BJP workers that the National Conference and Congress would not be able to form a government in the region, emphasizing the need for unity to ensure the BJP's success in the assembly polls, which begin on September 18.

During his visit, Shah released the BJP's election manifesto and chaired strategy meetings with senior party leaders. He underscored the historic nature of the elections, highlighting that for the first time since Independence, the assembly polls would be conducted solely under the Indian flag and Constitution, a departure from the earlier practice of dual flags and constitutions in the region.

Shah also pointed out that the Modi government had reduced terror-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir by 70%, and assured that the region would not be pushed back into turmoil. He expressed confidence in the BJP's ability to form the next government, ensuring that Jammu and Kashmir continues its progress under a unified Indian governance framework.
