Israel targets Syria with Air Strikes

Israel has launched a series of intense airstrikes across Syria, targeting critical military infrastructure in the wake of President Bashar al-Assad’s fall. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, over 250 strikes have been carried out within 48 hours, severely crippling Syria’s military capabilities.

The strikes, which began shortly after Assad’s government was overthrown, targeted key installations, including airports, radars, weapons depots, and aircraft squadrons across several Syrian governorates. Near Latakia, an air defense facility, naval ships, and military warehouses were reportedly damaged, while military research centers and electronic warfare installations in Damascus were also hit. Explosions rocked the capital early Tuesday, with loud detonations reported by AFP journalists.

Israel has also deployed troops to the buffer zone east of the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights, a move Foreign Minister Gideon Saar described as "limited and temporary" for security purposes. "Our actions are solely to ensure the safety of Israel amidst the rapidly changing dynamics in Syria," Saar said.

The Observatory described the strikes as a systematic effort to dismantle the remnants of Assad’s military infrastructure, asserting that these operations targeted "the most important military sites in Syria."

These developments come amid Syria’s ongoing political and security vacuum following the overthrow of the Assad regime. While Israel has long sought to counter threats emanating from Syria, the intensity and scale of its recent operations underscore the shifting regional dynamics after Assad’s ouster.

As Syria reels from years of civil war and the collapse of its government, the international community is closely monitoring the situation. With widespread destruction of military sites and heightened security measures in the region, the fallout of Israel’s airstrikes may reshape the strategic landscape in the Middle East.
