Harris Promises Immigration Fix, Trump Calls Border Trip 'Too Late'

Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris pledged to strengthen border security and address America's immigration challenges during a visit to the US-Mexico border in Douglas, Arizona. Amid growing political attacks from her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, Harris emphasized a balanced approach, promising tougher border measures while advocating for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented migrants already residing in the U.S.

"As President, I will work with Congress to finally create a pathway to citizenship for hardworking immigrants who have contributed to this country for years," Harris said. She underscored her commitment to comprehensive immigration reform, criticizing politicians for their failure to solve the issue and insisting that she would prioritize solutions over politics.

Illegal immigration has become a prominent concern, with record numbers of migrant crossings at the southern border in recent years. Harris acknowledged these concerns, vowing to take decisive action. "I will put politics aside to fix our immigration system, which has been neglected for far too long," she said. The November 2024 election, according to Harris, presents voters with a clear choice between common-sense solutions and the "same old political games" of the past.

Harris sharply criticized Trump’s immigration record, stating that he did nothing during his presidency to address key problems such as the shortage of immigration judges, outdated asylum procedures, or improving lawful pathways for migrants. She also pointed to Trump’s failure to collaborate with other governments in the region to address what she described as a "regional challenge."

"The American people deserve a president who cares more about border security than political theater," Harris declared. Drawing from her experience as a former Attorney General of California, a border state, Harris noted that she understands the complexities of border security, having prosecuted criminal organizations involved in trafficking guns, drugs, and people.

As part of her plan, Harris introduced a strategy aimed at dismantling the global fentanyl supply chain. Her approach seeks to reduce the flow of precursor chemicals from China, which she argued is critical to safeguarding American communities from the "unimaginable destruction" caused by fentanyl.

Meanwhile, Trump launched a scathing attack on Harris, accusing her of neglecting border security during her vice presidency and claiming that she had allowed violent crime to surge. Trump accused Harris of betraying her oath and alleged that her policies had devastated American communities, calling her actions "unforgivable" and labeling her tenure as a "disaster" for the country.

Harris, however, countered these attacks by highlighting her focus on real solutions, contrasting her vision for America with what she described as Trump’s failure to lead.
