China has issued a sharp response to US President Donald Trump’s announcement of reciprocal tariffs, warning that it is prepared for any conflict, whether economic or otherwise. The Chinese embassy in the US declared, “If war is what the US wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war, or any other type of war, we’re ready to fight till the end.”
Trump, in his address to Congress, justified the new tariff measures, stating that countries like China, India, and South Korea impose disproportionately high duties on US goods. “India charges over 100% on our autos. China’s tariffs on our products are double what we charge them. South Korea’s average tariff is four times higher,” he said.
In response, Beijing's commerce ministry accused the US of violating WTO rules and filed an official complaint. “The US’s unilateral tax measures seriously undermine China-US trade cooperation,” it stated.
Trump also linked the tariff hike to China’s alleged failure to curb the trafficking of fentanyl into the US. However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry dismissed the accusation, calling it a "flimsy excuse" to justify economic aggression.
“The US is responsible for its own fentanyl crisis,” the ministry asserted. “We have made sincere efforts to help, but instead of recognizing our cooperation, the US chooses to smear and pressure us with tariffs. Bullying will not work.”
Beijing warned that these aggressive policies could harm bilateral cooperation on key global issues. “If the US truly wants solutions, it should engage in dialogue as equals, not threats,” the statement concluded.
With tensions escalating, global markets are bracing for the fallout of yet another US-China trade standoff.
