The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections independently, confident in its ability to challenge both the Congress and the BJP. AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar emphasized the party's determination, calling Congress "overconfident" and accusing them of not valuing alliance partners.
"In Delhi, AAP will contest alone. We are capable of fighting the overconfident Congress and arrogant BJP," Kakkar stated. She highlighted the Congress's poor performance in Haryana, attributing their defeat to their refusal to cooperate with allies. Despite Congress failing to win any seats in Delhi over the past decade, AAP had offered them three seats during the Lok Sabha elections. However, Kakkar noted, the Congress did not reciprocate this gesture in Haryana.
According to Kakkar, Congress disregarded efforts by the INDIA bloc to forge an alliance in Haryana, further straining relations. As a result, the two parties could not reach a pre-poll agreement due to differences in seat-sharing strategies. In Haryana’s elections earlier this year, AAP lost the sole seat it contested, while Congress fell short of the majority, enabling the BJP to retain power.
Meanwhile, AAP celebrated a significant milestone by winning its first assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehraj Malik, an AAP candidate and District Development Council member, triumphed in the Doda constituency, defeating his BJP rival Gajay Singh Rana by 4,538 votes. Kakkar praised Malik’s dedication, noting that he had been a steadfast member since the party's early struggles.
Looking ahead, AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, further strengthening the party's presence in the region.
